Are You Suffering From Trauma and/or PTSD ?
Have you experienced a traumatic event, or suffered a string of losses or setbacks that leave you feeling overwhelmed?
Do you suffer from PTSD symptoms, such as intrusive flashbacks, insomnia, nightmares, irritability, difficulty focusing, or "losing it?"
- Do you feel burdened by pain from the past that keeps you from moving forward with your life?
Psychological trauma does not always let you "just get over it" and "move on." It is a fear-based survival mode stored in the body. When activated, it can make you anxious, avoidant, withdrawn, overly defensive, easily upset or overwhelmed. All it takes is a “trigger”—a song, an image, a scent, a phrase, a facial expression... to activate a negative state or reaction. In some cases, you may not even know what triggered you! Being subject to an unkown force can be distressing!
Hope for Trauma Survivors and PTSD Sufferers
If any of these conditions apply to you, there is hope! Psychological trauma can be healed. Neuroscience is discovering that we have the capacity to re-wire our brains and nervous system towards healthier pathways and functioning.
My name is Moraya Khan, Marriage & Family Therapist in San Francisco. Perhaps I can help you.
I have a special focus in helping clients heal from psychological trauma and PTSD. I have found that the most effective approaches to trauma and PTSD teach you how to access your body intelligence and help you to integrate those parts of you that are cut-off from normal awareness and therefore not under your control.
Tools for Trauma Healing and Recovery
Some of the methods that I use to work with psychological trauma and PTSD are:
- Cultivating mindfulness, body-based awareness and groundedness
- Building inner resource and getting in touch with your natural wisdom
- Strategies to prevent or recover from triggered states
EMDR: a healing modality based on alternately stimulating the right and left sides of the brain through eye movement or tapping.
